Kevin He (McLellan Lab) has been awarded his Msc and Natalie Waller (Cook Lab) has upgraded her MSc to a PhD and has been award a University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship. Congratulations to you both.
In May of 2020 the Otago Medical Foundation committed funding to an urgent, fast-tracked fund specifically for COVID-19 medical research. Associate Professor James Ussher and Professor Alex McLellan have been both awarded grants.
Congratulations Tom Devine, Assistant Research Fellow in the Department who is a recipient of a 2020 Fulbright Science and Innovation Scholarship. Tom will complete a Master of Public Health specialising in Sociomedical Sciences and History, Ethics and Law at Columbia University in New York City, New York. Tom graduated with a BSc in Microbiology (Hons First Class).

Congratulations Dr Matthew McNeil (Research Fellow) who has received a $1.2 million HRC project grant over 36 months "Combating antimicrobial resistance its high-throughput bacterial genetics".
Congratulations Dr Rachel Darnell and Greg Cook who have received a $1.2 million HRC project grant over 36 months "Unlocking antimicrobial tolerance in bacterial pathogens to overcome AMR".
Sonya Fenton, a BBioMedSci(Hons) student in the Kemp lab has been awarded the Barbara Heslop Memorial Scholarship, valued at $8,500. This scholarship is in memory of the late professor Barabara Heslop who graduated from Otago Medical School in 1948 and had a forty-year career at Otago, specializing in transplantation research.
