‘The microbiome in colorectal cancer: moving from microbial taxonomy to functional mechanisms’
Dr Purcell is a Senior Research Fellow and current Sir Charles Hercus Fellow, based in the Department of Surgery at the University of Otago, Christchurch. She has a background in molecular biology and microbial genomics and currently leads an independent research group with strong clinical collaborations. Dr Purcell’s research areas include investigating the role of the microbiome in influencing molecular mechanisms in colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal diseases.
