‘Type IV CRISPR-Cas: Overlooked Genie in the CRISPR Bottle’
CRISPR-Cas systems are adaptive immune systems in prokaryotes that enable RNA-guided cleavage of invading viruses and plasmids. While there has been extensive research on all other types of CRISPR-Cas, Type IV systems have remained largely unexplored. These systems are particularly intriguing because they are enriched on plasmids and lack adaptation modules and a known nuclease component. In this talk, I will share our journey to uncover the molecular mechanisms driving Type IV CRISPR-Cas systems. Our findings provide new exciting insights into the biological function and potential applications of these enigmatic systems.
