Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer: the evolution of a cancer syndrome
Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer (HDGC) is a cancer syndrome caused largely by germline mutations in the CDH1 gene. Its clinical management requires finding a difficult balance between prophylactic surgery and endoscopic surveillance. In this talk I will outline how our understanding of HDGC has changed as more affected families have been identified and describe our progress towards developing drugs for the chemoprevention of this syndrome.
