MSc student Kirsten Ward-Hartstonge has received PhD scholarship funding from the Lottery Health Research Committee of New Zealand.
Kirsten, who is studying in Ros Kemp's lab, will next year begin her PhD project investigating how the immune system controls colorectal cancer by quantifying and characterising immune cells subsets in patient cohorts undergoing immuno-modulatory therapies.
Kirsten says, "The Lotteries scholarship will give me the opportunity to complete my PhD to the highest possible standard, setting up my future and furthering my research career in immunology."
The scholarships are awarded annually to students whose research is likely to translate into meaningful health outcomes and community benefit for New Zealanders; address a significant national health issue or address a unique gap in health research knowledge.
