“Microbiology, immunology and virology are the building blocks of science.”

Rochelle Enright

Rochelle Enright loves the way her degree has given her a strong grounding in biological sciences. She works as Marketing Manager for a supplies distributor, a role that requires her to understand her many different customers’ research objectives and techniques.

“Microbiology, immunology and virology are the building blocks of science. Once you understand the basics, you can pick up anything.”

Rochelle and her team of technical specialists provide support to researchers throughout New Zealand and Australia. She also works closely with her company’s suppliers around the world and has travelled to countries such as the USA, Korea, China, Thailand, Germany and Singapore.

Although the travel opportunities are a big plus, what Rochelle enjoys the most about her job is helping others with research projects covering a wide array of disciplines.

“It’s important for me to have a thorough knowledge of how our products are used in the lab so that I can provide tailored advice. My role couldn’t be successfully undertaken without a solid background in microbiology and practical research methods.”

The range of possibilities has always appealed to Rochelle. She particularly enjoyed the practical labs while she was doing her degree, because of the freedom to choose your own area of interest for experiments.

“Microbiology is a truly complex and diverse field that offers something for everyone.”

And now with several years experience in the industry, she is confident about the options for her future.

“Sales and marketing in such a specialist field will always bring opportunities. You never know, maybe someday I’ll even be running the company.”
