The Otago Centre for Electron Microscopy (OCEM) are pleased to announce that Dr Mihnea Bostina has recently been appointed as the Academic Director of the OCEM. Dr Bostina will hold a 0.5 FTE appointment as Academic Director of the OCEM and a 0.5 FTE appointment as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Dr Bostina's research interest is the structural biology of viruses and he will bring his expertise in single particle reconstruction to Otago. Dr Bostina completed his PhD in Biophysics and Structural Biology at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt, Germany and a research fellowship at Harvard University in Boston, USA. He is currently a staff scientist at the Facility for Electron Microscopy Research at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Dr Bostina will be joining the OCEM in mid-2013. His research within the University of Otago and the OCEM will utilise the new 200kV cryo-transmission electron microscope with electron tomography capability that will be arriving in early 2013.
