Ten top New Zealand scientists have been elected as Fellows of the Royal Society of New Zealand at the annual general meeting of the Society’s Academy in Christchurch today. Four researchers working at overseas institutions were also elected as Honorary Fellows.
The University of Otago’s Chair in Viral Pathogenesis will be a critical weapon in the battle against emerging infectious diseases. The new professor will seek to better understand animal viruses that could evolve to new strains and present a great threat to human life.
