The Department welcomed in the new 400-level students on Monday morning with a mihi whakatau, where staff performed a waiata. The students performed their own waiata followed by karakia and hariru. The morning was completed with some kai and a mixer for staff and students.
A special thank you to our kaumātua Hata Temo and Tom Devine as well as Essie, Alice and Howard for expertly leading the student waiata.
Thanks to the all the staff that committed time to practise, especially Alex McLellan and his guitar. The department appreciates the hard work of our cultural advisory committee for organizing the event, the first in the history of our Department.
